Crochet Rocks

Over winter vacation I went to visit family in Oregon, and took an overnight trip to the Oregon coast. While there I found all these amazing rocks that I just wanted to collect to try making the lace rocks I've seen on the internet and on Etsy. So this is my first batch/attempt at making crochet lace rocks.

To make them I adapted various doily and lace patterns that I found on Antique Pattern Library. I intend to post my adaptations soon, maybe with a tutorial for making these (although I feel there are plenty good tutorials).

All the stones in the picture are for sale on my Etsy shop. So go check them out :)

Free Crochet Pattern- Queen Anne Lace Headband

I modified this pattern from a scarf pattern I have, i made it have less bumps and obviously a lost smaller.

Queen Anne's Lace Headband

Materials:
Crochet Thread (I used size 10. I think.)
Crochet hook- 1.5 mm

Stitches:
Ch- chain
Sc- Singel Crochet
Dc- double crochet

Pattern
1: Chain 3,work 13 dc into ring. DO NOT JOIN! Chain 1,turn. Work a sc into next 2 dc. *Ch 4,sc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * five more times (6 loops). Ch 6,turn.

2: Slip stitch into the 1st free ch4 loop. Ch 3,turn. Work 13 dc into the ch6 loop. Slip stitch into the the 1st sc of the 1st motif,ch 1,turn. Sc in next 2 dc. *Ch 4,sc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * five more times (6 loops). Ch 6,turn.

3: Slip stitch in 1st free ch4 loop of adjoining motif, ch 3,turn. Work 13 dc into ch6 loop. Slip stitch in next free ch4 loop of adjoining motif, chain 1,turn. Sc in next 2 dc. *Ch 4,sc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * five more times (6 loops). Slip stitch into next free ch4 loop of adjoining motif. Ch 6,turn.

4: Repeat step 3 until headband is desired length, mine is about 22 in. You can just try it against your head as you near the end. You are going to want to lay down the headband and make sure the ends interlock. You don't want them both to be on the same side, your the join would look weird.

5: When you reach the end of stpe 3 for the last time, sl st into the loops for the beginning motif. you should do this twice, once to connect to the first motif, and once to connect them both to the 2nd to last motif.

Free Crochet Pattern- Amigurumi Octopus

A couple months ago one of my friends asked me to make her an octopus, and so I went to make it. I looked around for some patterns, and saw a few I liked, but they all required sewing which is something I hate. So I designed my own.

These octopi are also available through my Etsy Store.

(Mostly) No Sew Crochet Octopus Pattern

To make this pattern, you need yarn and a crochet hook that is 1-2 sizes smaller. I tend to use worsted weight and a size H/5mm hook. You also need stuffing, and whatever type of eyes you like to use, I sew yarn eyes.

Rnd 1: Ch 2 and work 8 sc into second ch on hook OR 8 sc into a magic ring (8 sc)
Rnd 2: Inc around (16sc)
Rnd 3: *Sc, inc* around (24 sc)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, inc* around (32 sc)
Rnd 5-9: Sc around (32 sc)
Rnd 10: *2 sc, dec* around (24 sc)
Rnd 11: *Sc, dec* around (16 sc)
Stuff head
Rnd 12: Dec around (8 sc)
Rnd 13: Sc around (8 sc)

The tentacles are worked into each sc from the last round. I have found that you get the curliest tentacles when you work the hdc into the back loop of the ch instead of going through both loops.

*Ch 12, 2 HDC into 2nd ch from hook, 3 HDC into each ch, sc into next sc* Repeat for all tentacles

Edit- I forgot about to show how to get rid of the hole in the bottom. You don't necessarily need to use a needle to sew this, you could just pull it through with your hook (that's what I used to do before I got needles).

When you finish the last tentacle, sl st into the first st and bind of. Cut a tail long enough to weave through the hole, with enough room to maneuver. Then you just sew into the stitches, all around and back through the first stitch you went through. Pull tight, and weave in the end.

Here are some hats I made over the weekend using the free pattern from Sarah Arnold: Divine Hat
They are all available from my Etsy Shop

WIP: Nyan Cat

The other day I was looking at the colors of yarn I have in my stash, and decided I would make a nyan cat something. So I made the head, and then the poptart, but had no idea what I was going to do with it. So I showed my roommate and she said "Make it a bag".

Need to do:
  • Make a rainbow strap
  • Make a tail and feet

For those of you who do not know the nyan cat, here is the video.
